Basic Level: Grades 1 to 3

The Basic Level is where formal schooling takes root. Students who joined in Pre-Primary become fluent readers and confident writers, and new students joining at this level are brought up to speed quickly.

What Basic Level students learn

Reading, writing and numbers, done properly

In Grades 1 to 3, the school gives constant attention to the four core language skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. A child who reads and writes well by Grade 3 has the single biggest advantage a school can give.

  • English and Nepali: reading fluency, clear handwriting and spoken confidence in both languages
  • Mathematics: number work, tables and the beginnings of problem solving, taught step by step
  • Science and social studies: the world around them, taught with simple observation and discussion
  • Moral education, arts and sports: habits of discipline, effort and respect are built daily
How we teach

Attention to each child

Small enough to know everyone

Class sizes let teachers notice when a child is struggling and when a child is ready for more. Remedial classes give extra support to those who need it.

The library from day one

Students begin borrowing from the school library in these grades. Children who read beyond the textbook learn faster in every subject.

Homework with purpose

Homework reinforces what is taught in class: enough to practise, never so much that it crowds out childhood.

Parents kept informed

Regular assessments and parent-teacher communication keep families aware of how their child is doing, and what to work on together at home.
