Junior Level: Grades 4 to 6
The Junior Level is where students move from learning to read to reading to learn. Subjects widen, project work begins in earnest, and students start to study on their own.
Questions, experiments and projects
Teaching at this stage is project-based, experiential and inquiry-based. Students carry out simple experiments in the science lab, use the computer lab, and take on group projects that teach them to plan, divide work and present what they found.
- Science: hands-on experiments in the exploratory science lab
- Computer studies: the computer lab, including introductory programming
- English, Nepali and mathematics: deepening skill in all four language skills
- Social studies: Nepal, its communities, and the wider world
- Clubs and sports: debate, quiz, science and literary clubs open up at this stage
Building independent learners
Projects that teach thinking
Group projects, field studies and hands-on tasks train students to ask good questions and to find answers for themselves, not just to memorise them.
The science lab in regular use
The exploratory science lab supports the curriculum with real experiments, so science is something students do rather than only read about.
Assessments and remedial support
Regular assessments show progress in each subject. Students who need extra help get remedial classes, and those ready for more are given more.
Clubs and competition
Debate, quiz, science and literary clubs give students early practice in performing, arguing well and taking part in competition.
